A LETTER FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR: MS. KRIEGER

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have reached the end of the 2024-2025 school year! Thank you for helping to make my first year at Cedarwood school so welcoming and wonderful. I have absolutely loved getting to know each and every one of the students – it has been a privilege to help support and witness them navigate their social, emotional, and academic journey.

This year, the students grew, accomplished, learned from mistakes, and made lasting memories. They focused on developing important character traits with the following Cedarwood Spirit Words: kindness, responsibility, gratitude, participation, perseverance, empathy, respect, honesty, cooperation, friendship, positivity, creativity, discovery, acceptance, courage, growth, and confidence.

Additionally, in classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions, students engaged in strategies for emotional regulation, conflict resolution, goal setting, coping skills, healthy friendships, and self-esteem work. I am incredibly proud of their commitment to growing in these skills, and of the progress they have made over the course of the school year.

While the start of summer is exciting, many students also experience uncertainty or anxiety about the transition into summer and may struggle to adjust to the change. Here are a few additional tips to help support your child’s transition:

1. Maintain a routine: Having a basic structure to the day—like regular wake-up times, meals, and bedtimes—can help kids feel safe and balanced during the transition into summertime.

2. Encourage curiosity and learning: Consider setting aside time each day for reading, physical activity, or even learning a new skill.

3. Keep social connections strong: Help your child stay connected with friends and continue to grow in their positive communication skills. Summer is a great time to enjoy quality time with friends and family!

4. Promote play and downtime: Giving time for creativity, outdoor play, and allowing kids to “be kids!” helps children relax, recharge, and process emotions. This will help them to be ready and excited for the start of another school year!

5. Continue communication: Some children may miss the structure and social interactions of school more than they realize. Continuing to check-in with your child on how they are feeling can help them to feel safe, supported, and alleviate any anxious or negative moods.

Thank you for entrusting us with helping to support your child’s growth and development. It has been a joy to be part of their journey this year, and I wish you all a safe, restful, and joyful summer!

Best,

Ms. Krieger

SPIRIT WORD

CONFIDENCE means believing in yourself — and you show it in so many ways every day!

When you're brave, you try something new, even if it feels a little scary.
When you're strong, you keep going, even when something is hard.
When you're proud, you feel good about who you are and what you've done.
And when you're sure, you trust that you can do it — because you believe in YOU!

Remember, confidence doesn’t mean being perfect. It means trying your best and not giving up. You’ve got this!

CAUGHT CHA AWARDS

The "Caught Ya" awards are a way to recognize and celebrate students who embody the qualities of the school's spirit word, such as kindness, perseverance, or responsibility. When students demonstrate these positive traits in their actions and interactions, they are "caught" displaying the spirit word's values and recognized in Friday assembly. This encourages a positive and supportive school culture by highlighting and rewarding the behaviors that reflect the school's core values.
